Bringing Quantum Education to Life: Successful Creative Quantum Seminar

The Creative Quantum Seminar on 21 November brought together around 90 curious minds from across the Dutch quantum landscape. From students and researchers to educators and outreach specialists, the energy in the room was contagious. The day opened with inspiring talks from experts at TU Delft and Leiden University, followed by hands-on workshops ranging from quantum escape rooms and colourful light experiments to lesson materials, art exhibitions, and even a cleanroom experience. A standout moment was the Game/Education Sprint, where teams designed their own quantum games with help from international mentors. The event wrapped up with networking, drinks, and plenty of fresh ideas. In one day, participants proved how creative, accessible, and fun quantum learning can be, and showed what’s possible when education, imagination and community come together.

Creative Quantum Seminar Showcases Breakthroughs in Quantum Education and Outreach

The Hague, 21 November 2025

The Creative Quantum Seminar held on 21 November celebrated a major milestone in quantum education and community building. More than 90 participants from across the Dutch quantum ecosystem including students, researchers, lecturers, and representatives from universities, universities of applied sciences, vocational institutions, and outreach organisations gathered for a full day of knowledge exchange, hands-on learning, and creative collaboration.

Inspiring Keynotes and Interactive Discussions

The programme opened with remarks from Pieter de Witte (Quantum Delta) and featured two expert keynote speakers:

  • Prof. Miriam Blaauboer (TU Delft) shared insights into interdisciplinary approaches to quantum teaching.
  • Dr. Julia Cramer (Leiden University) discussed evaluating the impact of quantum education and outreach.

Morning sessions offered a wide range of interactive workshops, covering quantum escape rooms, serious games, lesson development, the AQT master programme, Q-lab initiatives, and visual quantum exhibitions.

Innovation in Practice: Afternoon Workshops

The afternoon programme included parallel sessions focused on Higher Education, Young Learners, and Outreach. Participants explored topics such as educational cleanroom processes, coloured-light experiments, quantum safari demonstrations, Qbeads activities, and quantum art.

A notable highlight was the Game/Education Sprint, where two teams developed new quantum games and learning concepts. Led by Evert van Nieuwenburg and Norwegian guest Hans Heum, the sprint sparked fresh ideas and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Strengthening the Quantum Community

Closing remarks were delivered by Boaz van der Plas, PhD (programme director AQT, applied physics and mathematics, THUAS), followed by an informal networking reception. Conversations throughout the day reaffirmed the collective commitment to strengthening an inclusive and collaborative quantum community.

Acknowledgements

The organisers thank all speakers, workshop facilitators, and students involved in the interactive expositions. Special appreciation goes to the organising team: Hilde Wijngaard, Francesca Ines Moretto, PMP®, and Halima S. and the programme committee: Evert van Nieuwenburg, Michiel Thijssen, Rutger O., Pascal van den Bosch, Gunter Helms, and Hilde Wijngaard.
