LEGO Workshop Brings Cleanroom Engineering to Life at Creative Quantum Seminar

On 21 November, the Creative Quantum Seminar featured an inspiring and interactive workshop on cleanroom engineering, hosted by Hittech Group employees Tatjana Verdoold and Bart Rietmeijer. This one-hour session, a condensed version of the full workshop usually offered at the Leidse Instrumentmakers School (LIS) in collaboration with Gunter Helms, introduced participants to the intricacies of cleanroom work and production line setup.

Participants, ranging from students and teachers to program directors, engaged in a hands-on challenge: building miniature semiconductor machines out of LEGO. Each attendee assumed a specific role in the simulated production line, learning firsthand the precision, coordination, and attention to detail required in cleanroom environments.

The workshop highlighted that engineering does not always have to be large-scale, dirty, or cumbersome; it can also be small, precise, and exceptionally clean. Participants quickly grasped the principles of cleanroom operations through observation, collaboration, and active engagement, making the session both educational and enjoyable.

Special thanks go to Hittech Group, Tatjana Verdoold, and Bart Rietmeijer for dedicating their time and expertise to deliver this memorable workshop, offering fresh perspectives on engineering education and hands-on learning.
